Questions about ROSE (Restorative Obesity Surgery, Endolumenal)

Weight Loss Surgery in Los Angeles, California

What is ROSE?

Restorative Obesity Surgery Endolumenal, or ROSE, is revisional weight loss surgery. This incisionless, endoscopic procedure restores stomach and stoma size to the original proportions achieved after gastric bypass surgery.

Why have I gained weight after gastric bypass?

If you underwent weight loss surgery and later gained weight, the stomach pouch or stoma, (the connection between the small intestine and the pouch), may have stretched, allowing you to eat more before feeling full. Therefore, you begin to gain weight.

Is ROSE right for me?

If you lost weight after gastric bypass surgery, and are now gaining weight, ROSE may be right for you. A comprehensive evaluation with Dr. Carson Liu includes a medical screening, thorough medical exam, evaluation of your nutritional needs, and an endoscopy to determine if ROSE is your best solution. Dr. Liu may also recommend dietary counseling.

How does ROSE restore stomach size?

Dr. Liu performs the ROSE procedure using The EndoSurgical Operating System (EOS), cutting edge technology approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

EOS consists of a narrow, long access platform, called the TransPortâ„¢, and surgical tools designed specifically for grasping tissue and securing it to allow Dr. Liu to insert anchors and sutures. During the procedure, Dr. Liu uses an endoscope to observe what is going on inside your abdomen. The scope and EOS instruments are inserted through the mouth and into the stomach pouch. Tissue anchors create folds that reduce the size and volume of the pouch. ROSE requires no incisions, which means less risk, less postoperative pain, faster recovery time and no scarring.

Is the ROSE procedure safe?

Generally, discharge from the hospital following the ROSE procedure occurs the same day or the next day. You may experience a mild sore throat, but no other discomfort, following the procedure.

Nutritional counseling and exercise will help during your recovery. With your stomach size reduced, you will feel full again after eating a few ounces of food, and you will lose weight. Maintaining a healthy weight is vital to your health, eliminating the symptoms of obesity-related health conditions such as joint disease, Type II diabetes, heart disease, and respiratory conditions.
